Tea Party Lies”

Kingman, AZ – Wednesday, January 8th at their monthly
luncheon at Calico’s Restaurant, Democratic Congressional candidate &
political writer Mikel Weisser will deliver a lecture to the Kingman area Democratic
Women’s Federation, entitled, “Addressing Tea Party Lies & Rescuing the
Future.” A former social studies teacher, arts organizer, poet/musician and progressive
activist, Weisser has long been an outspoken critic of the Right and currently serves
a vice chair in the Arizona Democratic Party’s progressive caucus and on the
state boards of Democracy for America, the Arizona State Poetry Society, and
Safer Arizona (a cannabis reform organization). Though a first-time candidate
in the 2012 Democratic primary, and only recently an organizer in the Mohave County
Democratic Party and Occupy Movement, Weisser’s political column, “Current
Comedy,” dates back to the early 1990s and has been published nationally by websites
such as Op-Ed News, Daily KOS and Dissident Voice and locally in both the
Kingman and Bullhead City papers.
Often a boundary-pushing
entertainer and controversial liberal figure in largely conservative Mohave
County, Weisser’s anti-Tea Party lecture (which he will also deliver in PHX
& Prescott over the following two days) aims to be an opening salvo in what
could be a hard-fought campaign against the GOP and Congressional District Four
incumbent, Paul Gosar for the 2014 midterm elections. Weisser claims that, “Tea
Party policies and the rhetoric of their leaders is willfully damaging America’s
economy and social fabric and threatens our future. Endless ACA attacks,
Benghazi boondoggles, debt ceiling showdowns, government shutdowns, gutting
education, cutting unemployment and food stamps, while protecting Wall St
wolves; these acts verge on treason. If America is to have a future, the Tea
Party must be stopped.”
According to his
campaign literature, Weisser’s own platform includes “dramatically improving education,
humane pragmatic immigration reform, gender-equality for both women and the
LGBT community, sensible water management to sustain growth, solar and wind
development to move past the petroleum-based economy, corporate accountability
for the continuing mortgage fraud fiasco/financial sector bubble, reversing the
trend towards the privatization of government services, in particular private
prisons, an increased focus on arts and tourism here in western AZ and an end
to the federal prohibition on marijuana.”
A lively time is
expected. Plan to arrive early. The Kingman area Federation of Democratic Women
monthly luncheon meets at 12 noon at Calico’s Restaurant, 418 W Beale St,
Kingman, AZ, 928-753-5005. For more information on the Mikel Weisser for US Congress
